Most of us are not familiar
with the name Didymos. It is a Greek word meaning twin.
In
Aramaic (Hebrew) language the word for twin is Thomas
which we are all very familiar. In fact Thomas and
Didymos mean one and the same word twin. There is a
gospel called the fifth gospel or the gospel for the
third millenium written by Didymos called The Gospel of
Thomas. It is a collection of secret sayings attributed
to Jesus of Nazareth. It is different from other
Gospels. There are two versions of this Gospel available
now. It was written in the middle of the first century,
it was hidden for a long time, and it came to light from
Egypt only in the last century.
Our Bava chose the name Didymos reconfirming the fact
that our church was established by Didymos, or Thomas
the Twin.
