New Dioceses

 

On the basis of the decision taken by the Malankara Syrian Christian Association Managing Committee met on October 21, 2008 and the recommendation of the Holy Episcopal Synod met on 25th February 2009, that the following dioceses come into existence through the Kalpana No.93/2009 dtd 2 March 2009: Banglore; Ahemadabad; UK.Europoe and Africa; South West diocese of America; and North East diocese of America. The Holy Episcopal Synod

 

The Holy Episcopal Synod approved the recommendation of the managing committee regarding the allotment and transfer of Metropolitans. The recommendation is  as follows.
Transfers:
1. H.G. Kuriakose Mar Clemis Metropolitan: Sulthan Battery to Thumpamon Diocese
2. H.G. Zachariah Mar Anthonious Metropolitan: Kochi to Kollam
3. H.G. Dr. Yakob Mar Irenaios Metropolitan: Madras to Kochi

New Allotment:
 1. H.G. Yuhanon Mar Polycarpos Metropolitan :  Angamaly
2. H.G. Mathews Mar Theodosious Metropolitan:  Idukky
 3. H.G. Dr. Joseph Mar Dionysious Metropolitan, Diocese of Calcutta
4. H.G. Abraham Mar Ephiphanios Metropolitan, Diocese of Sulthan Battery
5. H.G. Mathews Mar Themothios Metropolitan, Diocese of UK, Canada, Africa
6. H.G. Alexios Mar Eusebius Metropolitan, Diocese of America South West
7. H.G. Dr. Yuhanon Mar Dioscorous Metropolitan, Diocese of Madras

Additional Charges:
1. H.G. Geevarghese Mar Coorilos Metropolitan:  Assistant of Diocese of Ahmedabad
2. H.G. Abraham Mar Ephiphanios Metropolitan, Assistant of Diocese of Bangalore.

The Holy Episcopal Synod decided to appoint Metropolitans H.G.Dr. Geevarghese Mar Coorilos as the President of MGOCSM,  H.G. Yuhanon Mar Polycarpos as the President of OCYM, H.G. Mathews  Mar Theodosius as the Manager of Corporate and M.D. Schools, Ecumenical Relations – H.G. Dr. Gabriel Mar Gregorios, ECC-H.G.Dr. Yuhanon Mar Dioscorus. The Synod also decided to appoint Rev.Fr. Dr. Sabu Kuriakose as the Chief Editor of Malankara Sabha Magazine, Rev.Fr. John Thomas Karingattil as the Secretary of Vattasseril Mar Dionysius Endowement Fund and Rev.Fr. Dr. george Pulikkottil as the Bursar of St. Thomas Orthodox Seminary, Nagpur.

H.G.Thomas Mar Athanasius Metropolitan is appointed as the representative of the Holy Episcopal Synod in the Working Committee.

The Episcopal Synod with the Catholicos as its president is the apex body of all bishops. The authority of the synod is final and binding. It has exclusive rights and privileges in the matter of upholding the faith of the church, its discipline and order of Apostolic Succession. As regards temporal matters the church is guided by the Malankara Syrian Christian Association.
     
The bishops rule the diocese assigned to them by the synod.
